Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

I would like to point out in advance that I am NOT a doctor. If you experience any discomfort, please seek professional help!

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of rare genetic connective tissue disorders where the body’s connective tissue is weakened due to a genetic defect in collagen production or structure. Collagen is a key protein responsible for the strength and elasticity of the skin, joints, blood vessels, and other organs. Depending on the type of EDS, symptoms can vary, but all forms involve increased joint mobility, fragile skin, and other connective tissue issues.

Symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome:

  • Hypermobile joints: Excessive joint flexibility, leading to frequent dislocations or subluxations
  • Stretchy, fragile skin: Skin that is unusually elastic and prone to bruising and scarring
  • Chronic joint and muscle pain: Frequent joint problems and pain due to instability or overstretching
  • Weak blood vessels: Increased risk of bruising, internal bleeding, or even ruptured blood vessels
  • Delayed wound healing: Wounds heal more slowly, and scar tissue may form abnormally
  • Gastrointestinal issues: Problems like reflux, constipation, or leaky gut due to connective tissue weakness in the digestive tract
  • Skin problems: Frequent skin issues such as stretch marks and abnormal scarring
  • Fatigue: Chronic exhaustion due to the strain on joints and connective tissue

There are several types of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, each with different symptoms and severity. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, preventing injury, and improving quality of life. Early diagnosis and care are important to avoid complications.

What do I recommend in terms of Diet?

Of course every body is different and I am not a doctor, so I can only tell you what helped me.

For me changing my diet to fully whole food plant based already did a huge thing for my well being, so why don’t you start there and see how you feel. If you still have problems start reducing things like sugar, gluten, alcohol and any other inflammatory ingredients1. If all of this doesn’t help I would recommend for you to look into histamine and everything that is connected with it. Maybe also see a nutritionalist, a hormone coach and have your gut biome tested in order to find out what’s going on.
